Immigration Department Apprehends 58 Suspected Illegal Immigrants in Lusaka Operation

The Department of Immigration has apprehended 58 suspected prohibited immigrants during a clean-up operation conducted in Lusaka.
The operation targeted several areas including Kamwala, Mtendere, PHI, Kabulonga, Woodlands, Chelstone, Chalala and Chainda.
Chief Public Relations Officer Namati Nshinka told Mafken News that those apprehended include 47 Burundi nationals, six from the Democratic Republic of Congo and five from Rwanda. The suspects are currently detained at Kamulanga Police Post pending further formalities.
Meanwhile, the Mpika District Magistrate’s Court has convicted five Congolese nationals for failing to report to immigration officers. Each was fined K15,000 or nine months imprisonment.
And in a related development, the Ndola Regional Immigration Office has deported a 30-year-old Ghanaian national, Isaac Kwesi Sam, who was earlier convicted for possession of cannabis.
Mr. Nshinka said the department will continue enforcing measures to ensure compliance with Zambia’s immigration laws.
