Former Mufulira DC Mike Manda Released on Bail After Meeting Court Conditions
By Jotham Likomeno,

Former District Commissioner for Mufulira, Mike Manda, has been released on bail after fulfilling all court conditions, including the provision of two sureties.
Mr. Manda, who had been remanded at Mufulira Correctional Facility, was granted bail in the sum of K30,000 in his own recognizance, with two working sureties bonded at K50,000 each. However, his release was delayed despite meeting the initial requirements.
Speaking in an interview with Mafken News, his brother, James Manda, explained that authorities declined the first two sureties because they were councillors. He said the prosecution argued that councillors could soon lose their positions and that the court required sureties who are full-time employees.
The family later presented alternative sureties, leading to Mr. Manda’s release.
He is now awaiting his next court appearance scheduled for March 20, 2026.
Mr. Manda is facing charges of sedition and pleaded not guilty before the Mufulira Resident Magistrate on Tuesday, February 24, 2026.
