Zambia, through the Ministry of Finance and National Planning, has received the prestigious Public Sector Reform Award at the Africa Trade Conference 2026 being held in Cape Town, South Africa, in recognition of the country’s bold fiscal and financial reforms.
The award, sponsored by Access Bank Africa, acknowledges Zambia’s efforts to strengthen macroeconomic stability through decisive policy measures.
Minister of Commerce, Trade and Industry, Chipoka Mulenga, received the award on behalf of the Ministry of Finance and National Planning and commended government for its continued commitment to fiscal discipline and economic reform.
The recognition comes as Zambia continues implementing key reforms aimed at addressing economic challenges, including debt restructuring and the dismantling of fuel subsidy arrears valued at more than US$100 million.
Speaking after receiving the award, Mr. Mulenga said it was encouraging to see Zambia’s efforts gaining international recognition.
He added that government policies supporting trade and strengthening local leadership are helping to grow the economy, reduce inflation and stabilize the country’s financial outlook while creating employment opportunities for Zambians.
Mr. Mulenga further noted that the award reflects government’s commitment to fiscal responsibility and sustainable economic growth, which has contributed to improved business confidence and economic stability.
The Africa Trade Conference brought together policymakers, business leaders and economic experts from across the continent to discuss strategies for boosting trade and economic development in Africa.
