The Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) has won the Chawama Constituency parliamentary by-election, with its candidate Bright Nundwe polling 8,085 votes, according to official results released by the Electoral Commission of Zambia.
Mr. Nundwe secured victory with 8,085 votes, ahead of the ruling UPND candidate Muunda Morgan, who finished second after polling 6,542 votes.
Announcing the results, Returning Officer Lewis Lupando said the election was conducted in line with electoral laws and described the poll as peaceful, though voter turnout was low, with about 18,000 votes cast out of more than 92,000 registered voters.
Mr. Nundwe takes over from Tasila Lungu, daughter of former President Edgar Lungu, who lost the seat after the Speaker of the National Assembly declared it vacant.
