ECZ Begins Delimitation Process Ahead of 2026 Polls

ECZ Chairperson Mwangala Zaloumis

By Anthony Chomba,

The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) has officially launched the Delimitation Exercise, a process that will result in the creation of 70 new constituencies across the country.

ECZ Chairperson Mwangala Zaloumis has stressed that the delimitation exercise is not politically motivated, but is guided by law and objective criteria.

Speaking in Lusaka during the launch, Ms. Zaloumis said the process is structured, consultative and evidence-based, adding that it is anchored on population data and geographical considerations.

She noted that stakeholders at district level play a critical role in the exercise, as they are responsible for proposing areas where new constituencies may be created, guided by factors such as population size, data analysis and geographical continuity.

Ms. Zaloumis further emphasized the importance of broad stakeholder participation as the 2026 delimitation process gets underway.
