DEC Seizes Over Three Tonnes of Cannabis in Nationwide Intelligence-Led Operation

The Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) Deputy Public Relations Officer, Theresa Mawere, says intelligence-led operations are proving effective in dismantling large-scale drug networks across the country.

Ms. Mawere revealed that the Commission has seized more than three tonnes of cannabis and arrested several suspects during a major nationwide operation targeting illegal drug cultivation and trafficking.

The intelligence-led operation, codenamed Operation Kufeza, disrupted large-scale cannabis production networks in Central and Western Provinces.

In a statement made available to Mafken News, Ms. Mawere explained that in Central Province, DEC officers conducted an operation in Lukombwelo Village of Luano District, which led to the arrest of six suspects for the illegal cultivation and trafficking of cannabis.

She further disclosed that in Western Province, a joint team of DEC officers from Kaoma and Mongu districts carried out a coordinated operation in Nkeyema District, resulting in the arrest of five suspects and the seizure of cannabis weighing a combined total of 1,478 kilogrammes.

Ms. Mawere said the Commission remains committed to intensifying intelligence-driven operations to curb illegal drug activities and protect communities across the country.
