Copperbelt Provincial Health Director, Dr. Charles Mwinuna, has announced a major improvement in the availability of medical commodities across the province, describing the development as a significant milestone for healthcare delivery.
Dr. Mwinuna revealed that drug availability at health posts has reached 94 percent, while health centres are now at 96 percent, compared to the 34–35 percent levels recorded in previous years.
Speaking to the Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency (ZAMMSA) Board of Directors in Ndola, Dr. Mwinuna attributed the progress to the strengthening of the ZAMMSA Luanshya hub and improved last-mile distribution systems.
He said a dedicated provincial task force is actively monitoring health facilities, with firm action taken against any cases of pilferage.
Dr. Mwinuna further disclosed that tertiary hospitals have also recorded improved availability, with Ndola Teaching Hospital at 90 percent, Kitwe Teaching Hospital at 92 percent, and Arthur Davison Teaching Hospital at 85 percent.
He emphasized the need to sustain the gains through strong accountability systems, proper storage, and enhanced commodity safety measures.
