Community Action Against Corruption (CAAC) has accused the Anti-Corruption Commission of attempting to discredit Zambia’s latest Corruption Perception Index (CPI) ranking.
Speaking in an interview with Mafken news, CAAC Chief Executive Officer Brightone Tembo urged the ACC and government officials to accept what he termed the corruption reality reflected in the 2025 report.
Mr. Tembo questioned why the Commission is now describing the CPI as perception based when it did not raise similar concerns in 2023 and 2024, when the rankings indicated improvements in the fight against corruption.
He further criticized the decision by the ACC and the Director of Public Prosecutions to appeal the acquittal of Livingstone Mayor Constance Muleabai, alleging the move is meant to divert attention from Zambia’s negative CPI score.
