A 73-year-old man of Chiwempala Township in Chingola has been arrested for allegedly murdering his 65-year-old wife in a domestic dispute.
The suspect, identified as Zuze Musonda, is accused of fatally stabbing his wife, Lizzy Mwansa, in the early hours of Sunday.
According to Copperbelt Province Police Commissioner Mwala Yuyi, the incident occurred around 06:40 hours on March 22, 2026, at the couple’s home in Twashuka B area following a marital dispute.
The couple’s son, Thomas Musonda, aged 23, reportedly discovered the body after entering the bedroom, where he found his mother lying lifeless with a deep stab wound to the back of her neck. The suspect was allegedly still holding a knife at the time.
With the help of family members and neighbours, Thomas managed to overpower and restrain his father before handing him over to police.
Police have since opened a docket, and the suspect remains in custody. The body of the deceased has been deposited at Nchanga North Hospital Mortuary, awaiting a post-mortem examination.
